Take up road-widening

Sir, — Motorists travelling between Ring Road Junction on Sedam Road and Town Hall continue to suffer as there is no sign of road widening. Although, the traffic police declared the road as accident-prone, the Kalaburagi City Corporation has failed to take up widening work. I hope the new commissioner of the city corporation will push for converting the road from two lanes to four lanes.

City of dust

Sir, — The civic condition of Raichur city is deteriorating. The city is already struggling with poor roads throughout the year, and now dust has added to the problem. Filling up potholes with mud, and the lack of proper drainage systems along roadsides have led to this situation. The authorities should take appropriate action before the monsoon arrives, so that such incidents can be avoided post-monsoon.

Widen Gulbarga University Road

Sir, — The stretch from Gulbarga Corporation Hall to the Ring Road on the Gulbarga University thoroughfare is witnessing traffic congestion most of the day. This is the main arterial road to enter the city from Government General Hospital, M.R. Medical College, ESI Health City, Gulbarga University, residential colonies and the nearby cement industries. The airport, work on which is nearing completion, is also along this road. While the onward road from ring road was widened sometime ago, this segment remains untouched. Unless this stretch is widened, traffic jams will continue. The administration should remove impediments and encroachments along this stretch to ease traffic congestion.

‘Forget the past’

Sir, — I was deeply anguished over the Shiva Sena’s threat to prevent the legendary Pakistani singer Ghulam Ali’s concert at Mumbai. Our people have forgotten that the best way to win someone’s heart, even an enemy’s, is by love and not hate. One historical mistake cannot be corrected by committing another now. We should forget the past and strive to build a bright future for our country based on sacrifice, love, understanding, and compassion towards all our country men. I appeal to our politicians and fringe elements to desist from fanning communal tensions.Basavaraj Modi
