The Lakshmipuram police have sought a report from the Yuva Dasara Committee with regard to the controversy surrounding Kannada rapper Chandan Shetty and reality show participant Nivedita Gowda.

Mr. Shetty’s proposal to Ms. Gowda, on the stage of a Yuva Dasara event here on Friday evening, landed the duo in trouble as three private complaints were filed with the police, accusing them of misusing the government platform for their personal reason.

Police Commissioner K.T. Balakrishna told reporters here on Sunday that the three complaints are being investigated as non-cognizable (NC) cases. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Muthuraj said the police cannot issue show-cause notices to the duo without knowing what happened officially from the organisers.

Meanwhile, Minister in charge of Mysuru district V. Somanna said Mr. Shetty had telephoned him and expressed regrets over the incident. “He (Shetty) belongs to my constituency in Bengaluru. I told him what he did was wrong and I am hurt,” he added.
