Cricket fans can rejoice as Mysuru is hosting the 12th Ranji trophy match starting Wednesday.
The Mysuru zone of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) is holding the match between Karnataka and Baroda at Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Stadium (formerly Gangotri Glades) on Manasagangotri campus here.
S. Balachander, convener, KSCA, Mysuru zone, said arrangements had been made for the cricket-loving public of the city to watch the match. Entry to the stadium will be free and public can enter the stadium from the gate opposite the Senate Bhavan, he added.
Temporary shelters had been put up for spectators at the stadium and arrangements for drinking water had been made. An LED scoreboard would be installed for the match, the convener said.
A separate enclosure had been established for the cricket club secretaries and presidents besides the life members and umpires and scorers. A release from the KSCA here said anti-corruption measures would be implemented in Ranji trophy matches by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from this season. “The anti-corruption officer for the ensuing match is Sri Madhavan,” the release said.
Rahul, Uthappa playing
K.L. Rahul, who smashed his maiden test century at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) against Australia, is playing for Karnataka.
The other players representing Karnataka team are Vinay Kumar R. (captain), Robin Uthappa, R. Samarth, Manish Pandey, Gautham C.M. (vice-captain and wicket-keeper), Karun Nair, Kunal Kapoor, Shreyas Gopal, Udit B. Patel, Mithun A., Ronit More, Abrar Kazi, Shashir Bhavane and Arvind S.
As of January 19, Karnataka team leads the Group ‘A’ table with 28 points from five matches. Baroda has earned 15 points from five matches. Tamil Nadu stands second in the table.
