Minister for Agriculture N.H. Shivashankar Reddy started off Raitha Dasara celebrations here on Friday. He rode a bullock cart from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple near Balarama Gate of Mysuru palace to the venue of Raitha Dasara – J.K. Grounds – along with district in-charge Minister G.T. Deve Gowda and Minister for Tourism and Sericulture S.R. Mahesh.

They were accompanied by several farmers on their bullock carts, which were specially decorated with farm produce.

At J.K. Grounds, an exhibition on agriculture and farm equipment was organised. Farmers from the region and from other districts participated. A demonstration was arranged on Friday on the Israel model of farming and natural farming with zero investment.

A farmer had brought two emus to explain the benefits of emu farming. Stalls have been set up by farmers, farm entrepreneurs for disseminating information.

Ornamental fish show

‘Matysa Mela’, an exhibition of ornamental fish, also got off to a start at J.K. Grounds. The event is part of Raitha Dasara. The tunnel aquarium and different varieties of fresh and marine water aquarium fish species attracted many visitors. A demonstration of composite fish culture has been arranged as a part of the show. The show ends on Sunday.

Contests for farmers

The competitions for farmers will be held on Saturday. Minister for Revenue R.V. Deshpande will inaugurate sports events for farmers at 9.30 a.m. at the grounds. Separate events have been scheduled for men and women farmers which include a gunny bag race, slow cycling and so on.
