With recent rain in the catchment area, the water level in the Baje Dam across Swarna river, located at Baje village about 18 km from here, has been rising. The Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) hopes that the increased the water level would help it tide over the summer without severe water scarcity.
A team of elected representatives led by Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA, and P. Yuvaraj, CMC president, visited the dam on Monday.
Mr. Madhwaraj and Mr. Yuvaraj said that the water level in Baje Dam last year on this day was 2.32 metres. But this year, the water level on the same day was 4.17 metres.
Houses damaged
The Udupi Taluk Office said the house of Umar Farooq was damaged at Hejmady village when a tree fell on it during the heavy rainfall on Monday. The damage was estimated at Rs. 50,000. A tree fell on the house of Prajwal at Palimar village and the loss was estimated at Rs. 25,000.
