Rahul Gandhi urged to get Ambareesh dropped from Cabinet

Housing Minister is tarnishing the image of Congress: Anilkumar

October 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - Mandya:

N. Anilkumar, member of the Mandya City Municipal Council, who described Housing Minister M.H. Ambareesh as the most incapable Minister, has requested All-India Congress Committee (AICC) vice-president Rahul Gandhi to get him removed from the State Cabinet.

In a three-page letter recently, Mr. Anilkumar has requested Mr. Gandhi to direct Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to remove Mr. Ambareesh as he and his followers were tarnishing the image of the Congress.

The councillor of Ward 30 has alleged in his letter that the defeat of the former MP Ramya in the last parliamentary election was due to the anti-party activities of the supporters of Mr. Ambareesh. A copy of Mr. Anilkumar’s letter is available with The Hindu.

“With the induction of Mr. Ambareesh into the State cabinet and his appointment as Mandya district in-charge Mnister, the party has split into two groups. Mr. Ambareesh conducts meetings either at Hotel Amaravati belonging to his follower Chandrashekar or at his residence. He has never visited the party office,” Mr. Anilkumar said.

In the letter, Mr. Anilkumar has recalled the alleged involvement of Mr. Chandrashekar in the multi-crore Urban Development Authority scams reported in Mandya and Ramanagaram, which were being investigated by the CBI. Alleged involvement of Mr. Chandrashekar in the scam in site allotment process has also been mentioned in the letter.

“Mr. Chandrashekar and his brothers are wielding tremendous power because of their proximity to the Minister,” Mr. Anilkumar said.

According to him, Mr. Ambareesh had brought disrepute to the party by associating himself with leaders of the Janata Dal (Secular) H.D. Deve Gowda and H.D. Kumaraswamy.

Mr. Anilkumar alleged that Mr. Ambareesh was not able to discharge his duties as a Minister and also as a Member of the Legislative Assembly because of his ailments.

He said he wrote the letter on behalf of a number of loyal and sincere local leaders and workers of the Congress.

Mr. Ambareesh and his followers had taken the support of C.S. Puttaraju, an MP from the Janata Dal (S), and his party’s councillors in dethroning B. Siddaraju from the post of municipal president on May 14 this year, he said.

Mandya district in-charge Minister conducts meetings either at Hotel Amaravati or at his residence. He never visits party office.
