Pulses worth Rs. 73.56 crore seized in Kalaburagi in a week

More than 97.665 quintals of processed and unprocessed pulses seized

Officials here seized pulses worth more than Rs. 73.56 crore from warehouses and godowns that had stocked them over and above the permitted levels, in the past one week.

Deputy Commissioner Vipul Bansal in a release said on Tuesday that more than 97.665 quintals of pulses had been seized and this included processed and unprocessed pulses stocked in government warehousing corporation godowns and private warehouses in Kalaburagi city, Shahabad in Chitapur and Sedam taluks.

As many as 46,570 quintals of unprocessed Bengal gram and 1,371 quintals of processed Bengal gram were seized. The quantity of unprocessed green gram seized was 29,686 quintals and processed green gram was 3472.35 quintals.

The quantity of unprocessed red gram seized by the officials was 8405.40 quintals and processed red gram was 4,812 quintals. As many as 3,347 quintals of unprocessed black gram and one quintal of processed black gram were seized.

The quantity of masur dal seized was 0.5 quintals.

While 37947.5 quintals of pulses were seized from the Karnataka State Warehousing Corporation godown number 1 in Kalaburagi, another 15,414.92 quintals was seized from the godown no. two.

As many as 12,902.5 quintals of pulses were seized from Mahoor godown; 9.85 quintals from Sai Venkateshwar Super Bazaar; 1,194 quintals from the godowns of the corporation at Shahabad; and 238 quintals from Banashankari Warehouse in Kalaburagi city.

Mr. Bansal said the raiding team also seized 2,637 quintals of pulses from Balaji Warehhouse; 3,266 quintals from Jyothi Warehouse; 607.5 quintals from Sri Ram Ware house; 1,103 quintals from Suraksha Ware house, all in Sedam taluk; 10,552 quintals from the Central Warehouse no. 1 in Kalaburagi city; and 8,604 quintals of pulses from the Karnataka State Warehousing Corporation godown at Chitapur.

Deputy Director of the Food and Civil Supplies A.T. Jayappa said that on Tuesday alone, 3,189 quintals of pulses worh Rs 1.61 crore was seized from Manikantan Warehouse in Kalaburagi.

Officials seized 1,621 quintals of pulses valued at Rs. 10.64 crore in raids here on Tuesday. 

Officials found that traders had stored grain in a godown belonging to the Karnataka State Warehousing Corporation in Bellura village in Bidar taluk. 

They included 195 quintals of red gram; 8712 quintals of Bengal gram; 3,608 quintals of green gram; 305 quintals of arhar dal; 2,653 quintals of urad dal; and 648 quintals of other grain. A team led by tahsildar C. Lakshman Rao and Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies, H. Basavaraj, led the raid.
