Gadag’s poor performance in board examinations has continued with the district slipping to the last position in terms of pass percentage in the PUC examination, the results of which were announced on Monday.

In the SSLC examinations, Gadag had slipped from its 13th position in 2013-14 to the last (34th ) position with a pass percentage of 66.74 per cent.

Now in the PU examination, when the State’s overall pass percentage stood at 60.54 per cent, Gadag has recorded just 51.02 per cent ending up in the last position. It was in the 24th position in 2013-14.

Speaking to The Hindu , Deputy Director of PU Education of Gadag district B.S. Goudar attributed the poor performance to the shortage of faculty in colleges and the new curriculum. “We have 20 per cent shortage among the faculty members. Although we have taken guest lecturers they were inexperienced to handle the new curriculum under the National Curriculum Framework (NCF),” he said.

Mr. Goudar said that a meeting would soon be called to chalk out the action plan for the next academic year and all those colleges with less than 40 per cent pass percentage would be given notices.
