Science students of II Pre-University (PU) can heave a sigh of relief as the Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) has withdrawn the controversial order which required them to study the entire syllabus for the preparatory and final exams.
Though the department bowed to pressure from various quarters to continue with the blow-up (condensed) syllabus for this year, students enrolling in science courses in I PU for 2015-16 will be studying much more than their seniors. The DPUE has made it clear that there will be no blow-up (condensed) syllabus from the coming academic year.
DPUE Commissioner Sushama Godbole said the entire syllabus will be adapted from the beginning of the new academic year i.e. June 2015. “This year is a closed chapter. From the next, students will have to study the whole textbook, while teachers will have to work it out to teach the entire syllabus. Training teachers has been a continuous process and will continue next year as well,” she said.
The blow-up syllabus was introduced for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology after the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks were prescribed for PU students. The move was aimed to benefit students who have to migrate to the Central syllabus from State board schools.
