A 30-year-old Probationary Sub-Inspector of Police is said to have fainted before breathing his last on the roadside near Ram Mandir Circle in Kalaburagi on Sunday.

He has been identified as Basavaraj Sharanappa of Benakanalli village in Sedam taluk of Kalaburagi district. He was undergoing training at Naganahalli Police Training Centre on the outskirts of the city. After stating that he was ill, Basavaraj left the training centre to visit a hospital in the city. Though Basavaraj lost consciousness and had fallen down on a busy road, no one came to his help for sometime, probably, taking him to be an alcoholic.

Superintendent of Police N. Shashi Kumar visited the spot. A case has been registered in the Ashok Nagar Police Station. Investigation is on.
