Cheluvaraju, folk scholar and Professor in Kannada University, Hampi, and Ashwa Marekka, Burrakatha exponent from Somalapur, will be conferred with the award instituted in the name of late Nadoja Daroji Eeramma, to mark her first death anniversary, at Joladarashi Doddanaouda Rangamandir in Ballari on Sunday. The programme will start at 10 a.m.
Ms. Eeramma, an illiterate belonging to ‘Budaga Jangama’, a nomadic tribe, was a a legendary exponent of Burrakatha — a folk form of storytelling based on mythological and social themes. The awards are being given through the Nadoja Burrakatha Daroji Eeramma Foundation, floated by her grandchildren. V. Ramanjaneya, president of the foundation, informed presspersons here on Friday that Minister of State for Labour P.T. Parmeshwar Naik will inaugurate the function. B. Sriramulu, MP, will preside. Mallika Ghanti, Vice-Chancellor, will release the book ‘Bali Chakravarthi’ containing a narration given by Daroji Eeramma. M.S. Subhas, vice-chancellor Vijayanagar Sri Krishnadevaraya University, will confer the awards.
