Pourakarmikas have urged the district administration to constantly monitor the payment of salaries to street sweepers hired by contractors for urban local bodies across the district.

Some pourakarmikas, along with their leaders, met Additional Deputy Commissioner B.R. Poornima at her office here on Tuesday and requested her to instruct the contractors concerned to pay the salary of pourakarmikas before the 10th of every month, along with ESI and PF.

They also sought annual hike in salary, weekly off, holidays for festivals, toilets and drinking water, employment card/identity card from the agency, bonus and other facilities.

They urged the district administration to procure machines to clean drains and roads.

They told persons that they had been submitting memorandums to urban local bodies across the district. However, their assurances of fulfilling our demands had remained only on papers.

The pourakarmikas threatened to launch an indefinite agitation, if the district administration failed to initiate measures to fulfil their demands.

They demand that the salary be paid before the 10th of every month
