Residents expressed their concern over deposit of petrol in two wells in a residential locality near K.S. Hegde Medical Academy in Deralakatte on Thursday.

According to District Fire Officer G. Thippeswamy, residents called the Fire and Emergency Services on Wednesday evening about the presence of petrol. These two open wells are near the IOCL’s petrol bunk. The residents alleged seepage of petrol from the storage facility of the petrol bunk.

Mr. Thippeswamy said he and a team of Fire and Emergency Services went to the spot on Thursday morning. The petrol deposit was noticed in the wells that are 30 ft. deep. “We do not have the facility to drain deposit so deep. Personnel from IOCL have been called,” he said.

Ruling out seepage from the petrol bunk, an IOCL official said a team of personnel was sent to the spot to find the cause for petrol deposit in the two wells.
