Barring a few incidents of skirmishes between supporters of different political groups and protests by voters for missing their names from the voters list, the polling for 156 Gram Panchayats in Kolar district was peaceful on Tuesday.
Voters in rural areas were seen keen to exercise their right to elect their representatives at grass-root level of administration.
At many places such as Abbani and Holur, a number of senior women who were aged between 90 to 95 years came to the polling booths with the help of their relatives to cast the vote.
Voters participated enthusiastically at Kurudumale, a famous pilgrimage centre, and a hobli centre Holur.
Sudarshan’s vote
V.R. Sudarshan, former Chairman of Legislative Council, is among prominent personalities who cast the vote in panchayat election in the district.
Chowdadenahalli, Chatrakodihalli, Bisanalli and some other places witnessed tense situation for sometime as rival groups engaged in verbal duel. At Jodipura in Malur taluk, the voting was halted for sometime as residents staged protests for missing their names in the voters’ list.
