Parents want person who ‘abducted’ their daughter arrested

A resident of Alur taluk has alleged that the police haven’t arrested a person who allegedly abducted his 17-year-old daughter even seven months after a complaint was filed with the Alur police.

The police traced the girl after the parents moved the Karnataka High Court, he charged.

The girl, a II PU student, went missing on November 13, 2017. Her parents filed a complaint with the Alur police and it was registered on November 16, 2017. The parents, in their complaint, had suspected the role of one H.S. Raghu, a resident of the same village, in the incident.

“We had doubts about his role in the incident because he had been following my daughter. The police did not act even after the complaint. When a habeas corpus was moved in the High Court, they began to act,” the father of the girl said.

The police traced the girl in April and she is at a girls’ home run by the Women and Child Development Department. The girl reportedly told the counsellors, representing the Child Welfare Committee, that she was at the place of Raghu’s brother at Arehalli when the police found her. “It is shocking that the police haven’t taken steps to arrest the abductors. We know that she was initially kept at the place of Raghu’s sister in Hassan and later moved to Arehalli. My daughter is an intelligent girl. She passed SSLC with 80.8%. Because of this incident, she could not appear for II PU examination,” her father said.

When The Hindu contacted Superintendent of Police R.K. Shahapurwad, he said the girl had been traced. “We are making efforts to arrest the accused. Our staff are doing their job and I am hopeful the accused will be arrested soon,” he said.
