Over 150 persons were screened by doctors from Narayana Health Care at a heart health care camp in Bidar on Friday. Patients included some young children.

A team, led by Anand Agarwal, cardiac surgeon, conducted blood and hypertension tests, electrocardiogram (ECG), two-dimensional echocardiogram and other tests. Arun Kumar and S. Madhukar assisted him.

Later, Dr. Agarwal spoke on ways to maintain a healthy heart. He said that simple living, with regular exercise and stress free thinking were the key to a healthy life.

Worrying factor

“Worry is among the biggest causes of heart illness. Once in a while you see some heart patient who is not addicted to anything and wonder why he developed the ailment. That is because they are stressed and worried. They waste their mental energy on so many things on which they have no control. This habit is as bad as addiction,” he said. He said that no oil was absolutely safe, when taken in large quantities. Oil should be consumed in small quantities, he said.

He asked patients to abhor alcohol and tobacco. Both these substances, in any quantity are dangerous, he said.

“Claims that alcohol in small quantities is safe or healthy are baseless,” he said.

“Most of us are all born with a functioning system. We have to make sure it keeps going. What is needed is eating in moderation and regular exercise,” Dr. Agarwal said.

Khaja Mohteshamuddin, president, Rotary club of Bidar, secretary Suresh Channashetty, Ravi Mulge, Ramesh Goel, Priya Beldar, Sneha Mailapur and others were present.
