Members of various organisations led by Akkana Balaga of Hubballi staged a protest here on Wednesday, condemning the increasing number of assaults on children and women in the State.

Members of Akkana Balaga, Karnataka Navanirmana Vedike, Vishwa Lingayat Mahasabha, Moorusavir Mutt Sadbhakta Mandali, Basava Parisara Samrakshana Samiti and other organisations staged demonstrations on the lawns around the equestrian statue of Kittur Rani Chennamma wearing black bands on their arms to register their protest against the attacks on women and children.

They said that it was alarming that instances of sexual attacks on children and women, including the elderly, had increased of late. The government should take immediate steps to punish the guilty severely, they said.

During the protest, the protestors held placards demanding severe punishment.
