‘Organic saris’ steal the show at Co-optex Collections

Showcasing the recent products of the Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative Society Ltd., including eco-friendly saris designed using natural and vegetable colours, Co-optex Collections was inaugurated here on Friday.

The exhibition is being held at the Institution of Engineers, JLB road, and features “organic” saris and the conventional collection of designer silk saris, Coimbatore Soft Silk, Kora Cotton saris among others.

The eco-friendly saris are dyed with natural or vegetable colours and the cotton used for the production of these saris are cultivated without the use of chemical fertilizers, according to a release by Co-optex.

It said that organic cotton is dyed with chemical-free colours and the products are non-toxic, non-allergic and environment-friendly.

These are woven by highly-skilled weavers in and around Negammam area of Coimbatore and weaving each sari takes about two days, the release said.

The exhibition is on till October 20 and the products are also available at the Co-optex showroom at No.1096, opposite Rajkamal Theatre, Shivarampet, Mysore, # 0821-2425185
