‘Onus of clearing dues of farmers is on the government’

Government has not implemented itsdecision for nearly two years: Angadi

June 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - BELAGAVI:

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Suresh C. Angadi, MP (Belagavi), said that it was the government’s responsibility to implement its decision on sugarcane price and disbursement of dues to the growers.

Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday, he said since the government headed by Chief Minister had announced sugarcane price of Rs.2, 500 along with an incentive of Rs.150 per tonne of sugarcane for the crushing season 2013-14 , it was obviously the government’s responsibility to ensure that all the sugar mills paid the price fixed by it.

No commitment

Since none of the managements of sugar factories had committed to give the price announced by the government, the onus of giving the price was on the government itself. Despite being armed with a favourable High Court decision on the price issue, it was ironical that the government had failed to implement its decision since nearly two years, he said.

Compensation to family

He demanded that a compensation of Rs.20 lakh be paid to Gurunath Mallappa Chapgaon who committed suicide in his village Badal Ankalgi on June 8 allegedly due to delay in payment of dues by a sugar mill.

BJP national vice-president B.S. Yeddyurappa would ensure financial help to the family during his visit to Badal Ankalgi on June 28 to lead a padayatra from the village to Suvarna Vidhan Soudha.

Smart City

Mr. Angadi, who was not sure whether the Centre had agreed to the recommendation of the State government to include Belagavi among the list of smart cities, said he would take up the matter with the concerned ministry, if it was not included.

District BJP president Eranna Kadadi and Sanjay B. Patil, MLA (Belagavi Rural), were present.
