Public Works Department (PWD) Minister H.C. Mahadevappa has directed the department officials to fill all potholes and carry out other repair works on all roads under its jurisdiction in Belagavi Circle, latest by February 2016.

The government has sanctioned Rs. 109.99 crore under the head of ‘3054’ (Roads and Bridges) towards this purpose, he told reporters after reviewing progress of works in the Circle with the senior officials of the department at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha here on Monday.

On the visible non-compliance of his direction to remove all unscientific speed-breakers laid out both by the PWD and villagers on national and State highways and major district/town/village roads, he said a majority of bad road humps had been put up by local residents.

Briefing the media on various works taken up under the Karnataka State Highway Improvement Project and Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited with the assistance of Asian Development Bank and World Bank, he said a sum of Rs. 502.82 crore had been sanctioned for widening of the 193 km-stretch of Vijayapura-Hubballi Road from the present width of seven metre to 10m.

The work on construction of bridge over Malaprabha river near Konnur at a cost of Rs. 39 crore was under progress. The 170km-long Sankeshwar-Gotur-Vijayapura road was a socio-economic corridor with as many as 11 sugar mills and several tourist destinations on either sides, which had been taken up for improvement at a cost of Rs. 600 crore, he said.

The 109-km Mudhol-Nipani road stretch will also be repaired, for which the government has sanctioned Rs. 380.12 crore.
