Officials discuss preparations to be made for Rahul Gandhi’s visit

A meeting was held here on Saturday to discuss the preparations to be made for the visit of All-India Congress Committee (AICC) vice-president Rahul Gandhi to Mandya.

Mr. Gandhi would be visiting Mandya in the second week of October to meet the families of farmers, who had committed suicide owing to crop loss and indebtedness.

In view of his proposed visit, the functionaries of the party, led by S.T. Somashekar, Yeshwantpur MLA, convened a meeting here. Mandya District Congress Committee (MDCC) president M.S. Atmananda and others participated in the meeting. Mr. Somashekar asked the MDCC leaders to draw up a proposal for demanding a special package for the development of Mandya.

K.B. Chandrashekar, former MLA, stressed on expeditious completion of the ongoing repair work at the government-run Mysore Sugar Company Ltd., Kadalur Ramakrishna, Krishne Gowda, H.L. Manjunath and M.S. Chidambar were present.

Mr. Gandhi is expected to take out a padayatra and hold an interactive session with farmers during his visit.
