Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer M. Deepa has issued notices to three candidates contesting elections from the Dharwad parliamentary constituency for failing to publish their criminal antecedents in the print and electronic media.
Ms. Deepa told presspersons here on Sunday that the Election Commission has made it compulsory for candidates contesting the polls to advertise their criminal antecedents in TV and newspapers at least three times during electioneering. Though directions in this regard were issued on October 10, 2018, the rule is being implemented for the first time in this general election.
However, three Independent candidates — Vadiraj Madhusudan Mannari, Raju Anantsa Naikwadi and Dundusi Abdul Rehman, who had said in their affidavit that they have cases pending against them, have not published their criminal antecedents and hence, notice has been issued to them. The Election Commission has been asked to take further action.
She said that teams formed for implementing the model code of conduct, have seized ₹ 46.28 lakh unaccounted for money which was being transported to various places in the district.
