The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has planned to remove as many as 1,615 trees along a stretch of the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway, which is being upgraded as the Bengaluru-Bantwal National Highway 275, for the ongoing upgrading project.
According to a release issued by the Department of Information and Public Relations here on Friday, the authority has invited objections on the removal of trees from the public.
The proposal to auction 1,615 trees along the highway between Ramanagaram and Mandya for the project was accepted recently. The Project Director (Implementation) of NHAI has invited objections on the removal of trees. The public can file the same before May 25 with relevant documents, the release added.
The NHAI has already identified the trees and will invite tenders for the removal of the same. The authority has obtained clearance to remove trees, sources from the Forest Department said. However, the NHAI will initiate measures to plant saplings and nurture them along the stretch.
