The process of distributing Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) to newly-enrolled voters got off to a start here.
In the run-up to Mysuru Lok Sabha polls, the distribution of EPICs has begun in three Assembly constituencies in the city – Chamaraja, Krishnaraja and Narasimharaja.
Those who are 18 years of age and got enrolled in the electoral roll in the recent revision, have been receiving their cards from the Mysuru City Corporation since Sunday, said MCC Deputy Commissioner Shivananda Murthy. About 2,468 new voters in Narasimharaja, 1,700 voters in Chamaraja and 2,400 voters in Krishnaraja had enrolled.
Mr. Murthy said the newly-enrolled voters, who collected their voter IDs, were excited about first-time voting during the forthcoming general elections.
The responsibility of distributing EPICs had been vested on sector officers, Revenue officers and booth-level officers. These officers will be on this duty until all the new voters receive their cards. A total of 36,163 youngsters enrolled during the recent revision until January.
