Following speculation over his political move, Janata Dal (Secular) MLA for K.R. Pet K.C. Narayana Gowda has clarified that he had sought leave of absence from attending the Legislative Assembly session owing to health issues.

His supporters at a meeting on Thursday, however, decided to follow him, if he chooses to leave the party.

His clarification came after his absence in the Assembly on Wednesday raised speculation that unhappy at being “ignored”, he would leave the party. However, he said he considered JD(S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda as “god” and he was not leaving the party. Since he suffered from food poisoning, he had informed the Speaker about it, he added.

According to Mr. Narayana Gowda’s supporters, though he could not attend the Assembly session owing to ill health, it was true that he is unhappy with Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy for allegedly neglecting his constituency. “Our leader had demanded grants of ₹40 crore to take up various development works in the constituency. But, Mr. Kumaraswamy has rejected the request,” one of Mr. Narayan Gowda’s supporters told The Hindu .

Mr. Gowda’s supporters convened a meeting at K.R. Pet on Thursday and passed a resolution of supporting their leader and following him, if he joins the BJP or the Congress.
