Niharika M. and Raveesh S.B., students from Mysuru who scored the 45th and 56th CET ranks in medical respectively, dream of becoming cardiac surgeons, perhaps inspired by their parents who are doctors.

Niharika, a student of Marimallappa’s PU College, told The Hindu , “I was expecting a rank in top 50 in medical and I managed to get it. I am very happy.” Her father, Manjunath, is a surgeon at Gundlupet General Hospital, while her mother, Puttatayamma, is a gynecologist at the Nanjangud General Hospital.

A resident of Saraswathipuram, Niharika said she was never under pressure to follow in her parent’s footsteps. “It was my childhood dream to become a doctor, and I am happy about my choice,” she said.

Having scored 97.1 per cent in her II PU examination, her score-card for CET is as follows: 53 in physics, 57 in chemistry, 56 in biology, and 34 in mathematics. Thanking her parents and teachers for her achievement, Niharika said she aspires to specialise in cardiology. She managed to secure 941 rank in engineering.

Coaching for the board examination and CET helped her go a long way. “I used to study for 10 to 12 hours every day. When there were no classes, I used to study for longer,” said Niharika, who likes to play volleyball. Dr. Manjunath said he was very happy about her daughter’s achievement. “Her hard work has borne fruit today as she focused on her studies for two years without being distracted.”

An achiever

Raveesh S.B., a student of Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala, a residential school and college run by Sri Ramakrishna Ashram, who hails from Bhadravati in Shivamogga district, thanked his lecturers and college for supporting him.

“The institution helps shape our future, which is importance than scoring a rank….It helps us to develop a strong personality with ethical values,” he said over phone from Bengaluru.

Having scored 56th rank in medical and 637th rank in engineering, Raveesh said he was expecting a rank in the top 100. He scored 57 in chemistry, 50 in physics, 58 in biology, and 41 in mathematics.

He had secured 589 marks out of 600 in second PU Examination, scoring centum in Mathematics, Physics and Biology and 99 in Chemistry.

Raveesh’s mother, Nalina, is a paediatrician, while his father, B.P. Suresh, is a veterinary doctor who is presently serving as Joint Director at the Karnataka Milk Federation in Bengaluru.
