UGC-Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC), University of Mysore, is the first among 66 HRDCs in the country to launch the Moodle Learning Management Platform, said K. Srinivas, Professor of Information Communication and Technology, National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA), New Delhi.

Speaking after launching the online Moodle-MOOC platform here on Friday, Prof. Srinivas said Modular Object Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment (Moodle) was the most user-friendly platform for the delivery of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).

Prof. Srinivas said online education was the order of the day, and it provides opportunity for lifelong learning where a learner can learn on-campus as well as off-campus. MOOCs have revolutionised the education system wherein some of the well-designed courses are offered, he said.

Online education gives flexibility to learners. It requires simple infrastructure and is cost-effective, he said.

The NUEPA professor said the online learning management system helps the process of teaching and learning to be dynamic, interactive, and more importantly, collaborative, as it helps the learner to learn in their own space and time. Explaining the several uses of the Moodle learning system, Prof. Srinivas said it also contributes to the enrichment of course content.

He is conducting a one-day workshop for the participants of the 107th Orientation Programme of HRDC, University of Mysore, on ‘Online Course Designing, Transacting and Delivery’. Lingaraj Gandhi, Director, UGC-HRDC, University of Mysore, also spoke.

More than 30 assistant professors in different disciplines from the States of Punjab, Telangana, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are being given hands-on training at the workshop. The staff of the HRDC also participated.
