They have to go by merit, roster system

The Muzrai Department temple trusts will now have to go by merit and roster system (caste-basd reservation) for recruitments to schools run by them.

Citing lapses in the management of 22 schools, the State government decided to amend the Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowment Rules, 2002, making it mandatory for these schools/institutions to recruit staff based on the system of merit and roster.

The State Cabinet approved amendments to rules to ensure transparency in the management of these schools, said Krishna Byre Gowda, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister.

The schools run by these temple trusts had no clear recruitment rules and the amendment will bring more transparency to recruitment, the Minister said. “These trusts run educational institutions utilising temple funds. However, there is no transparency in the recruitment of faculty and functioning of these schools,” he said.

Temple trusts recruit their own candidates as schoolteachers and this violates the general recruitment policy of the State. These schools are run by different temple trusts across the State.

Like other schools

Following of roster and reservation system in recruitment would bring these schools on a par with other schools run by the State government, the Minister said.
