Shivamurthy Muruga Swami of Muruga Mutt, Chitradurga, visited Pemmanahalli Gollarahatti in Pavagada taluk of Tumakuru on Sunday. He said that seers and spiritual leaders should strive to eradicate the concept of untouchability by creating awareness among people of all castes and communities.

He said it is sad that untouchability is practised in society even today. A couple of other seers accompanied him on his visit to the Gollarahatti.

Pemmanahalli Gollarahatti was in the news recently after MP for Chitradurga A. Narayanaswamy was denied entry to it on the grounds that he belonged to the Madiga caste, which falls under Scheduled Castes, on September 16. The leader has subsequently expressed pain over the incident.

Mr. Narayanaswamy, in the meantime, has said that he would visit the Gollarahatti on Monday and take up development works there.
