Ramya, MP, underlined the need to take stringent action in cases of crimes against women.
A seven-year-old girl was kidnapped, raped and murdered by Madhu Puttalingegowda alias Sangha (21) at Nuggahalli in Pandavapura taluk in the district late on March 7. The girl’s partially buried body was found in a sugarcane field on Saturday morning.
Ms. Ramya visited the village on Monday morning and met the parents of the victim and spent some time with them.
Distressed with the crime, the MP said that the law would suitably punish the accused.
Demanding better security for women, Ms. Ramya said that the culprits involved in heinous acts such as rape and murder should be booked and punished for their inhuman crime. “I cannot announce any compensation in the case as the model code of conduct is in force,” the MP said.
Residents of the village, mainly women, requested the MP to take action against the illegal sale of liquor in the village.
Among those present during the MP’s visit were Congress workers and village elders.
