The 13th Dharwad District Kannada Sahitya Sammelan held here on Sunday expressed opposition to the proposed project to draw water from the Sharavati river course to Bengaluru.
Senior writer Basavaraj Sadar, who presided over the sammelan, called upon the people of North Karnataka to fight against this move. In his presidential address at the sammelan, Mr. Sadar said, “Today, it is the Sharavathi, and if we do not raise our voice against this, tomorrow, Bengaluru will start asking water from the Mahadayi, the Krishna and the Tunga and the Bhadra,” he said and added that there is a need to de-congest Bengaluru.
Expressing reservation over the neglect of North Karnataka region in terms of development, he said that major demands such as drawing Mahadayi river waters and others have not been fulfilled.
