In a suspected case of moral policing, four youngsters were assaulted by at least 19 people at Nagamangala in Mandya district recently.

An investigation was launched on Sunday after a video footage of the incident went viral.

According to the Nagamangala Town station police, the incident occurred at Nelligere Cross off Mullakatte Road on October 9.

The victims – Prashanth, Sameer, and two of their women friends – were in a car when Idrish and 18 others allegedly surrounded the car and assaulted them. One of the girls had developed an acquaintance with Prashanth. The accused objected to this. The group assaulted the youths, threatened them and recorded the incident. Later, they shared it on social media. After the incident got publicised, one of the victims filed a complaint.
