Expressing ire over the negligent attitude of the City Municipal Corporation (CMC) in ensuring proper supply of drinking water to residents of Davangere city, Minister for Horticulture and district in-charge Shamnur Shivashankarappa has warned that action would be initiated against the officials if they failed to rectify the error in the next few days.

Speaking after inaugurating the new zonal office of the Davangere CMC here on Saturday, he said the residents of city had not received drinking water from the last 10 days because of a technical snag in the pumpset, but the officials had not taken any steps to repair it and supply water. “If any official is not interested in working for the betterment of the city by providing facilities to residents they can take transfer to other places,” he said.

The corporation had decided to take up construction of 19 overhead water tanks in the city to ensure proper supply of drinking water to the city two years ago, but even today not even one tank was ready.

If the same situation continued, it would be inevitable to initiate stringent action against the officials, Mr. Shivashankarappa warned. In order to reduce the workload at the head office of the CMC, the State government had set up a zonal office at a cost of Rs. 1 crore.

The new office would include ward numbers 9, 12, 17 to 21, 28 to 32, and 39. The residents can get the required certificates and other facilities from the zonal office, the Minister said.
