Manjula Manasa, chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Women (KSCW), has said action will be taken against people who harass women or make any attempt at defaming women at the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS). Some unidentified persons had allegedly outraged the modesty of women working in the State government-run Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences here recently by pasting posters of obscene content at several places on the campus, which was reported in The Hindu on June 15.

Later, Ms. Manasa visited various departments in MIMS and verified the facilities that were available for women staff and students in the institution.

Ms. Manasa instructed MIMS Director Pushpa Sarkar to convene a meeting of women employees at least once in two months and hear their grievances.

During an interactive session, Ms. Manasa shared her mobile number, email id and office address with the staff and students and requested them to approach the commission when they are in distress. “I will discuss the issue of posters with the police officials and instruct them to resolve the case,” Ms. Manasa told The Hindu .

The incident had occurred on June 8 and a complaint was registered on June 10. The police said that so far, they had not succeeded in tracing the miscreants.
