H.K. Patil, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayt Raj, has said that he will convene a meeting of legislators and other elected representatives from the district to discuss utilising the surface water from the Tungabhadra and the canals to permanently solve the drinking water problem.

“A preliminary report on making use of the surface water is ready. We will discuss it with the legislators and take a final decision on how to go about it,” he told presspersons here on Sunday.

He informed that a similar scheme, making use of the Tungabhadra as the main source, was prepared for Gadag district and the work would be commenced soon.
