The Forest Department has convened a public meeting on Monday to elicit feedback and suggestions for the mass seedball sowing and planting programme to be held on June 5 to mark World Environment Day.
The meeting will be attended by all senior officials of the department and will be held at Aranya Bhavan at Ashokapuram from 4 p.m. and Chief Conservator of Forests, Mysuru Circle, will also attend.
The authorities intend to plant over 30,000 seedlings or saplings in Mysuru alone to enhance its green cover and another 20,000 saplings along the highways connecting the taluks to the city.
Deputy Conservator of Forests Prashanth Kumar said this has been proposed to shore up greenery for the Vanmahotsava programme.
He said feedback from the officials concerned will be sought to take up planting of saplings within vacant spaces in all government offices.
He said the focus will not only be on Mysuru but similar programmes will be held at all taluk centres.
The drive will be region-specific and the trees identified are those suitable for the climatic conditions of the local areas.
The department will also distribute saplings to the public.
The department has also raised over 6.4 lakh saplings in its nurseries and it is meant for distribution to farmers and the public in rural areas.
