May 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - DHARWAD:

Taking serious note of the death of two safai karamcharis while cleaning a septic tank in Kundgol, the Karnataka State Commission for Safai Karamcharis has directed the Dharwad district administration to file criminal cases against the Kundgol Taluk Panchayat executive officer and panchayat development officer.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, commission chairman Narayan said that despite the ban on manual scavenging, the practice was going on unchecked in several districts of the State, including Dharwad.

Referring to the Kundgol incident, he said that the police had arrested the house owner and filed a criminal case against him.
