The third edition of the four-day Mango and Jackfruit Mela at Curzon Park, adjacent to the Mysuru palace, will begin on Thursday.
For the first time, an exhibition and sale of special horticultural crops, including those which received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag, has been arranged at this year’s mela here. The crops include Nanjangud rasabale (banana), Mysuru mallige (jasmine), Mysuru betel leaves, Udupi mallige, Udupi mattagulla (brinjal), Hadagali mallige, Devanahalli chakkota (pomelo), Bengaluru blue grapes, Bengaluru sambar onion, Kamalapura red banana, Coorg orange and appe midi (mango). “The display and sale of GI crops has been arranged so that these varieties can be introduced among Mysureans. However, the sale will be limited to some crops,” Deputy Director of Horticulture H.M. Nagaraj told The Hindu .
