M.H. Ambareesh’s death has come as a shock to the people of Mandya district, where he was affectionately called “Mandyada Gandu” for many decades.

The icon of the Kannada film industry was a native of Doddarasinakere, Maddur taluk. Hucche Gowda and Padmamma of Doddarasinakere were his parents. The legendary violin maestro, T. Chowdaiah, popularly known as ‘Pitilu Chowdaiah’, was his grandfather.

Although he had relocated to Bengaluru decades ago, he continued his bond with the people of the district. As soon as the news of his demise broke, hundreds of fans rushed to the busy Bengaluru-Mysuru highway raising slogans in favour of their actor. A pall of gloom descended on his birthplace, and also in the town.

According to police sources, his fans started rushing to Bengaluru following his death.

Former Minister M.S. Atmanada mourned his death.

Security has been intensified at different places across the district following his death.
