‘Mandur of Kolar’ in the making?

Waste disposal plant at Yadahalli opposed

January 06, 2015 12:45 pm | Updated 12:45 pm IST - Kolar:

A move by City Municipal Council (CMC) to establish a solid waste management plant at Yadahalli appears to snowball in to a controversy with the farmers opposing the urban local body’s initiative.

A delegation of farmers of neighbouring Beeramanhalli, Veerapur, Thoradevandahalli, Arahalli and Moorandahalli apart from Yadahalli, petitioned to the district administration against setting up of the plant.

District unit of Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) led the delegation.

The CMC has proposed to set up the plant in 26.5 acre land at Yadahalli in Kolar taluk.

In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, the farmers said the life in rural belt will be affected if the waste disposal plant was started. They urged the authorities to rollback the decision to set up the plant.

KPRS District unit general secretary T.M. Venkatesh, taluk leaders N.N. Sriram, P.V. Raman, Gram Panchayat members Shashidhar and Narayana Reddy were present among others.
