A person who claimed to be a forest officer from Andhra Pradesh and visited the Mysuru zoo claiming to be on a special assignment of studying management of zoos, was handed over to the police after he was allegedly found to be a phoney.

In a release, the zoo management said Harish D. from Yattina Budihal in Ballari district had come to the zoo claiming to be an Assistant Conservator of Forests from Andhra Pradesh and deputed to study the management of zoos across the State. He reported to the Zoo Authority of Karnataka, showing some documents, on August 9.

Since then, he was being educated on the affairs of the zoo and its management.

“Suspecting his credentials and his behaviour, the zoo management got in touch with the Forest Department of Andhra Pradesh. The zoo was told that there was no such officer serving with the department. During questioning, [Harish] said he hadfaked the documents for the sake of power. The person has been handed over to the Nazarabad police for further investigation,” said Mysuru zoo executive director Ajit Kulkarni, in the release.
