Man commits suicide
A person allegedly committed suicide because of a fight over the management of a “garadi” at Uggelbettu in Uppoor village on Friday. The police have identified the deceased as Mahabala Shetty (75).
In a complaint lodged with the Brahmavar police, Vasanti M. Shetty, wife of the deceased, said Mahabala Shetty had been running the “garadi” as the managing trustee for many years. But some local persons took over the management using their “political and financial clout.” Mahabala Shetty, who was depressed by the turn of events, had even filed a case on this matter in a court in Udupi, she said.
Mahabala Shetty had told her that four accused – Krishnappa Poojary, Mahesh Kotian, Santosh Kotian and Vishwanath Sanil, all residents of the same village – were responsible for his troubles, she said. Since Mahabala Shetty felt he had lost his honour in the society he committed suicide by consuming pesticide at around 7 a.m. at “garadi.”
