Man gets life term for killing wife

The Third Additional District Court here has sentenced a person, who was facing charges of murdering his wife, to life imprisonment. Manjunath (50), a resident of Varamballi village in Hosanagar taluk, was accused of killing his wife, Bangaramma, in 2004.

Qurrel

The police said that the couple had quarrelled over attending a marriage. In the fit of rage, Manjunath was said to have poured kerosene over his wife and set her ablaze. The victim, who sustained burns, was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment. However, she died later during treatment, the police said.

Fine imposed

The police arrested Manjunath and had booked a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code against him. Besides sentencing Manjunath for life imprisonment, the court also slapped a fine of Rs. 25,000 on him.
