Man falls into borewell

A 45-year-old man fell into a defunct borewell filled with rainwater near the Chikkagula lake in Sira taluk of Tumakuru district on Sunday.

The police gave his name as Kambanna, a resident of Chikkagula.

The incident occurred when a group of village residents, including Kambanna, were trying to fill the borewell with sand bags.

Though the borewell was closed by the gram panchayat, a pit was formed inside it after earth caved in due to heavy rain for the past 15 days. It which was filled with water. When they went near the borewell to see if they can fill it by putting sand bags, Karibasappa (52) and Kambanna fell into the borewell. But Karibasappa was pulled out by the others.

Taluk panchayat member Thimmaiah R. told The Hindu , “ The borewell was drilled around 8 ft away from the lake bund by the Tumakuru Zilla Panchayat for drinking water purpose.” The police, and Fire and Emergency Services personnel are trying to rescue Kambanna from the borewell.
