Minister of State for Kannada and Culture Umashree has stressed the need for using literature to create awareness on social evils, especially those concerning women and children.

Inaugurating the three-day Dharwad Sahitya Sambhrama here on Friday, the Minister said that literature should act as a vaccination to prevent social maladies that were harming the progress of mankind. Ms. Umashree said that literature had the power to bring the society on the right path. She said that the society was becoming more complex and literature too faced challenges because of globalisation. Retired bureaucrat I.M. Vittal Murthy inaugurated a book exhibition. An exhibition of cartoons of V.G. Narendra is also being held.
