This year’s Dasara food festival promises to offer an exciting and lip-smacking traditional food items.

The organisers plan to hold the festival on a large scale and will set up around 120 stalls to treat food enthusiasts. As the 10-day Dasara extravaganza draws tourists from far and wide, efforts are being made to introduce gastronomic delights for foodies.

To provide spacious setting for the hungry visitors, the Dasara Festival Committee had shifted the venue of food festival from CADA Grounds near Mysore palace to Bharat Scouts and Guides Grounds near the office of the Deputy Commissioner last year. The change in venue turned the festival into one of the biggest hits of Dasara last year. This year too the food festival will be held in the same venue from September 25 to October 2.

The highlight of this year’s mela would be tribal food which is being introduced for the first time. Other cuisines include organic food, Mysore cuisine, food from Kodagu, coastal and Malnad region, north Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and North Indian cuisine.

The sub-committee in-charge of holding the food festival has invited hotels, restaurants, bakeries to apply for setting up stalls.

Participation in food festival comes with a rider — those wishing to set up their stalls must be registered under the Food Safety and Standards Act — and comply with the conditions imposed by the committee.

Besides, they must produce documents supporting their proficiency in food industry as the festival attracts domestic and international travellers, according to the authorities.

Stalls would be allotted based on availability and skills of the participant.

Interested persons can apply on or before September 10.

The application forms can be collected from the office of the Deputy Director, Food and Civil Supplies, Mysore. For more details, call K. Rameshwarappa on 9611165367, H.K. Ramu on 9448051793, or the food department office on 0821-2422107.
