Librarians asked to keep up with new technologies

Dashrat R. Albal, acting Vice-Chancellor of Rani Channamma University, who inaugurated the seventh State-level annual conference of Karnataka Health Sciences Library Association here on Friday called upon delegates to make the best and efficient use of the available resources to keep themselves abreast with the emerging technologies and trends while managing libraries.

He said the librarians need to be deeply involved in their job as they had the responsibility to provide all the books and journals under one roof and not disappoint tech savvy students of today. The role of librarians was highly significant in arranging and providing information to the users, he said.

Siddmalliah, conference director, highlighted the theme and objectives of the conference, which was organised by KLE University in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. KLEU Registrar V.D. Patil prefaced the objectives of the conference and called the delegates to make use of the conference and actively participate in the scientific proceedings.

Organising secretary Ravi D. Shivanaikar and KHSLA secretary Venkatesh spoke. Librarians Dr.Siddamallaih and V.S. Shetti were felicitated for their valuable services. KHLSLA president P.S. Mahesh released the souvenir ‘Jnanadeepa’ and addressed the gathering. N.S. Mahantshetti, Principal of J.N. Medical College, presided over the function and stressed on updating of library as per changing trends. She pointed out that libraries should be big by its content rather than the size of the building. Conference convener V.M. Pattanshetti and the former principal of JNMC H.B. Rajshekhar also spoke.
