Large cache of pirated CDs/DVDs seized, one arrested

The Mysuru City Police raided a CD/DVD shop in Azeez Sait Nagar, where large-scale piracy of movies, including the recently released blockbusters Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Bahubali was being carried out.

After receiving a tip-off, sleuths of the City Crime Branch (CCB) and Udayagiri police raided ‘Sada Bahar’ shop in Azeez Sait Nagar on Saturday and seized around 25,000 CD/DVDs of movies in different languages, 5,000 MP3 DVDs of movies, besides roughly 50,000 covers of CDs, bearing posters of different films.

The police also seized 12 CD/DVD writers, five computers used for writing CDs and DVDs, two pen drives and cash totalling Rs. 1,00,450.

Rizwan Pasha (40), a resident of Azeez Sait Nagar, who was running the shop, has been arrested by the police.

City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda, who announced the arrest, estimated the value of the seized goods to be around Rs. 25 lakh. Cases had already been booked in Devaraja, Lashkar and Udayagiri police station against the accused, who has been involved in this illegal activity.The accused used to produce the pirated DVDs in bulk and sell them for Rs. 30 apiece to purchasers, who would in turn sell them for Rs. 50 in the market, a police official said.
