Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank (KVGB) has taken steps to appoint women as daily deposit collectors, also known as pigmy deposit collectors, to ensure their greater participation in furthering financial inclusion.
Qualification
A press release issued by bank chairman N. Ashok Reddy here on Thursday said that the bank would appoint 150 women pigmy deposit collectors soon. Women in the 18-40 age group with a minimum qualification of Class 8 pass could apply.
Mr. Reddy said it was aimed at encouraging women to explore career opportunities in the banking sector.
He said that these collectors might help extend banking services to more women in the lower strata of society.
“Only 35 per cent of women have an account with a formal financial institution now, compared with 90 per cent of men in areas under the bank’s jurisdiction,” he said.
The bank has set a target of disbursing credit to over 10,000 women entrepreneurs and home loans for people belonging to the economically weaker sections of society, Mr. Reddy added.
It may help extend banking services to women in the lower strata of society, says bank chairman
