The Mysuru rural division of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on Monday rolled out its first service of multi-axle Volvo AC sleeper buses – Airavatha Dream Class – to Mumbai. The division had no such buses and those plying to Mysuru were from other depots.
With an emphasis on comfortable travel on the long-distance routes, the division launched the Mumbai service, which has been named as ‘Ambari’ suiting Mysuru’s legacy, and is likely to introduce similar services on other routes as well.
The 14.5-metre-long bus has a capacity to accommodate 46 passengers in lower and upper berths. The services are offered daily and advance reservation is available. The one-way ticket has been priced at ₹2,000 per passenger.
The bus leaves Mysuru at 1 p.m. and reaches Mumbai at 9.30 a.m. thenext day. Likewise, the bus departs from Mumbai at 1 p.m. and arrives here at 9.30 a.m. The bus travels through Shravanabelagola, Shivamogga, Harihara, Hubballi, Belagavi, Kolhapur and Pune.

Divisional Controller (Rural) Ashok Kumar said two such buses had been rolled out on the Mumbai route and cities such as Chennai, Hyderabad and Belagavi will soon be covered.
He said the Mysuru division had sought eight Volvo AC multi-axle sleeper buses from the central office in Bengaluru to cater to the demand from passengers.
